City of Lancaster recognizes LHS Audio-Visual Production Program

Under the direction of Kimberly Simpson, students in the advanced Audio/ Video Production program have produced more than 60 video productions that promote the school district and motivate students to do well in school and make good choices. The program has covered several topics that are important in the community today such as bullying, drug use, texting while driving, abstinences, voting and college and career readiness. They also launched a monthly Newscast, “LHS News” which covers school and community events. Senior advanced A/V production student Jose Arzola anchors LHS News.

This year, the student produced the first LHS Cypher Rap Video. The video featured eight young men from the high school promoting LISD through their creative lyrical abilities. The video premiered on YouTube and received 3,000 views on the first day. The video currently has more than 25,000 views on YouTube. The Advanced A/V Production program and the LHS Cypher video received a lot of media coverage and were featured on “The inside DFW” internet radio show, The CW 33 news, NBC 5 nightly news and on NBC’s “DFW Non Stop Show.” The LHS Cypher became a trending topic on Twitter, and inspired school districts throughout the nation to create their own cypher videos.

The A/V students also produced the winning entry for the National Athletic Training video competition hosted by the University of Texas at Arlington. The video promoted the LHS athletic training program and its use of proper hydration techniques. The students made LHS history by entering the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Student Emmy Awards competition and the University Interscholastic League Documentary competition. The students have submitted several productions and look forward to receiving the results.
