Lancaster Senior, Jazzkia Jones Wins Texas Legislative Black Caucus Scholarship Award
Lancaster, TX/Lancaster ISD
Lancaster High School senior, Jazzkia Jones was selected to receive a $4,000 scholarship from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus (TLBC) from Senator Royce West's 23rd Senatorial District.
While the TLBC awarded more than 60 scholarships during its African American Legislative Summit, Jones was one of six scholarships awarded on an at-large basis from only member districts. She was also the only student selected from the Lancaster Independent School District and one of three students from her senatorial district.
Additional criteria included that she must have a GPA above 3.0, be a Spring 2013 graduating senior from a Texas Education Agency (TEA) accredited high school and enroll full time in the Fall of 2013 in an accredited college, university or community college.
Jones attended the scholarship banquet with her mom to formally accept the award, meet senators and representatives, and tour the capitol building with other students. Her success is another example the fulfillment of Lancaster ISD’s More Than a Diploma Initiative.
