Lancaster ISD Trustee Ellen Clark Earns Designation of Master Trustee from the
Texas Association of School Boards

Lancaster, TX/Lancaster ISD

Lancaster ISD trustee Ellen Clark has earned the designation of Master Trustee upon completion of Leadership TASB, a program sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB).

Leadership TASB is a unique board development program designed to take experienced board members to a new level of service and leadership by exposing them to a variety of issues, people, activities, and locations during a year-long program. The program is composed of multiple training sessions held among a cohort group of 28 to 36 applicants selected for demonstrated leadership in their local district and communities and for their representation of the diversity of Texas school districts.

For 20 years, trustees around the state have had an opportunity to be a part of Leadership TASB. Ms.
Clark is the third trustee from Lancaster ISD to complete this program and receive this designation.
During the fifth session, June 13 –15, school board members in the 2012–13 Leadership TASB class
made presentations of their team’s findings following year long research. Class participants selected
topics related to public school accountability and selected narrowed research fields for in-depth study. Their research focused on topics that included historical understandings, commonly held yet erroneous perceptions, international academic competiveness, national standards, alternatives to high-stakes testing, and regaining public trust.

The Leadership TASB class met in conjunction with TASB’s Summer Leadership Institute in Fort Worth. More than 1100 new and veteran school leaders received extensive training on every facet of effective board governance, heard keynote addresses from renowned education experts, and picked up valuable ideas from district showcases and networking opportunities.

After the graduation ceremony June 14, participants joined the ranks of more than 700
school board members statewide who are Leadership TASB alumni.

The 2013 Leadership TASB class, composed of 35 school board members, represents Texas school districts of all sizes and property wealth. Participants who completed all required elements of the study program earned Master Trustee status, the highest designation recognized by TASB. Thus, Leadership TASB is much more than a series of training sessions. It is an opportunity to become part of a network of school board trustee leaders who learn and work together to enhance school governance in Texas, enabling our children to be prepared for a life of work and worth in the next century. TASB is a voluntary, nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local Texas school districts. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5 million public school students.

The Lancaster Public Schools serve more than 6,000 pre-kindergarten through grade 12 students in 11 schools. The mission of the Lancaster Independent School District, a leader in providing innovative, quality programs, is to educate every student with the knowledge; skills; and principles to succeed and contribute in a competitive and technologically advancing world by providing rigorous and engaging learning opportunities that promote diversity; create an environment of integrity and respect; and establish a commitment to continued improvement in partnership with families and community.
