MESSAGE FROM THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE

As we enter the month of September which is officially Attendance Awareness Month we want to make sure parents/guardians are aware of student(s) Attendance Policies and Procedures not just for September but the entire school year.

TARDIES

A student is considered tardy at 8:16 a.m. Tardies and partial day absences may be considered as excused or unexcused based on a determination of the principal or her designee.

When a child is tardy to school (after 8:15 a.m.), A PARENT MUST BRING THE CHILD TO THE OFFICE TO PROCURE A TARDY SLIP TO ADMIT HIM/HER TO THE CLASSROOM.  The tardy will be excused if a student has a dental / doctor appointment (ONLY IF proper doctor documentation is provided), or a family emergency beyond the parent's control.  Appointments during school time should be verified with a note from the physician/counselor. Students will be allowed to make up the missed school work.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance at Rolling Hills Engineering Academy is an absolute critical aspect of your child’s education.  It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to see that their child(ren) attend school regularly and are at school on time.  Students should also be picked up on time.  Regular school hours are 8:15 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.

***IMPORTANT NOTE*** Only 3 Parent/Guardian Handwritten Notes will be excused per student for the entire school year. If a student is absent a full or partial day for medical reasons please send the actual note from the doctor. If a student has any medical concerns/issues please provide necessary documentation from the doctor to the attendance office as soon as possible!

When it is necessary for a child to be absent, please call the school office (972-218-1525 or 1529) on that day by 10:00 A.M.  If no call is received, the office will call your home, cell phone, or place of employment to verify that the child is not truant. Parents/guardians are requested to send a note when the student returns to school to confirm explanation for the absence. REASONS THE ACADEMY CONSIDERS VALID ARE: Illness, Observance of a religious holiday, Death in the immediate family, Family emergency, or a Situation beyond the student’s control.

The Texas Education Code, 25.085, requires that every child, once enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten until age 18, shall attend school. The Texas Family Code states that a student may have no more than 3 unexcused absences or each four weeks and no more than 10 unexcused absences each six months. If a student has more than 3 unexcused absences in one four-week period or more than 10 unexcused absences in a six-month period, the parent is subject to prosecution under Texas Education Code School Attendance Law.

A warring notice is issued to the parent/guardian of failure to require the child to attend school as required by law.

  • The school will file a complaint against the parent/guardian with local authorities.
  • The parent/guardian may be charged with a Class C misdemeanor. Each day the child remains out of school may constitute a separate offense.
  • A fine may be collected if found in violation of the Texas Education Code School Attendance Law.

 Students Leaving During School Hours

Dental and doctor appointments during school hours are discouraged.  However, it is understood that these are sometimes difficult to schedule outside the school day. If your child must leave during the school day for any reason, you MUST send a note to the office notifying the school of the reason for leaving early and who will be picking up your child from school.

Parents or the designated party must pick up your child from the office and sign the child out of school. Your child will be called down to the office when you arrive for pickup.  In order to minimize the loss of instructional time, students will not be called down to the office prior to the parent’s arrival.  Children will not be released to a person who is not listed on the emergency card. Although this occasionally is perceived as an inconvenience, please understand that this is for the safety of your child. Please make sure your information online in Parent Portal is updated.

PARENTS WE NEED YOUR HELP IN MAKING THIS SCHOOL YEAR A SUCCESS BY MAKING SURE YOUR CHILD(REN) ARE IN SCHOOL AT LEAST 90% OF THE SCHOOL YEAR!!!!!!

 Thank you,
